Disney has released its latest trailer for its live-action movie Aladdin.
The trailer gives fans a sneak peek at the upcoming movie, as well as Will Smith’s blue ‘Genie’. Unfortunately, the blue character has not risen to expectations and many internet users were quick to mock the bizarre looking character.
One Twitter user commented, “Either this is a super clever marketing troll by Disney, and this isn’t what the genie will actually look like for Aladdin or… I dunno. Man, I just can’t believe this can possibly be the real thing. I just can’t.”
Pop culture reporter Kyle Buchanan weighed in, saying, “The Will Smith genie feels like a spoiler for Bird Box because I finally understand what image would make them so fascinated but also want to kill themselves.”
Speaking about his character, Will Smith said “it’s always terrifying” to remake something that is considered iconic. The late Robin Williams managed to instill a timeless version of himself into the character and Smith plans to do the same.
He wanted to pay homage to Williams but at the same time, create something that was unique enough to be “in a different lane.” Director Guy Ritchie said he had chosen Smith to play the role of ‘Genie’ as he wanted “a muscular 1970s dad.”
Somebody who isn’t too ripped but muscular enough for you to feel his presence in the room, he added. Aladdin will hit theaters on 24 May 2019.

Remember when Will Smith begged everyone to wait until we saw the blue CGI version of the genie before we judged? Yikes. pic.twitter.com/uP3fVUrELr

Will Smith as the genie looks like what one of those kids from the 90’s Fruit Gushers commercials would look like if they never found a cure for their fruit curse.
