Pixar is known for its incredible computer graphic animations such as Toy Story. What few people probably don’t know, however, is how it’d built ‘RenderMan’, a powerful software that has gone on to change the rules of animation and help films including Avengers, Star Wars, Fantastic Beasts, Mortal Engines, and more, in the visual effects department.

In this enlightening new video from WIRED, you’ll get introduced to how the software came about and the ways in which it eased the creative process for artists around the world, eventually leading Pixar to help win 27 of the past 30 Oscars in visual effects.
