Vita Coco recently launched a campaign for its new ‘Vita Coco Pressed Coconut’ drink, which comes with the tagline, “Impossible to Hate.” This resulted in a strange Twitter exchange between the brand and a social media user who, to put it nicely, isn’t the greatest fan of coconut water.
The company worked with an algorithm to find the most critical product reviews on Yelp, Amazon, TripAdvisor and the like, in order to strike conversations with haters in an effort to convince them to try the new drink, according to Ad Age.
Twitter user Tony Posnanski not only firmly refused to try the beverage, but fired back with the following message, “Save that nasty s**t for someone else. I’d rather drink your social media person’s piss than coconut water.”
Not wanting to disappoint, Vita Coco responded with a photo of an employee at a bathroom who was captured holding a Vita Coco jar filled with yellow liquid. The company has confirmed with New York magazine that the substance was indeed real urine.
Vita Coco also captioned the picture with, “Address?”
Needless to say, the stunt has left social media users appalled, and even Posnanski was impressed. However, he stood by his original sentiment, saying he still preferred urine, the “Miracle Whip of beverages.” It is unlikely that he would really send his address over, though.
