The ‘Distracted Boyfriend couple is now advocating happy family lives, it seems.

You’re likely to have come across a stock image depicting a man with wandering eyes and his female companion looking aghast as he checks out another woman. The photo has since been eternalized by the internet as the ‘Distracted Boyfriend’ meme.

Shot by photographer Antonio Guillem, the two prominent models in the image also feature in several of his works, enabling social media users to stitch a full backstory for the “couple.” Despite them appearing in numerous photos, the ‘Distracted Boyfriend’ is the persona that sticks.

Perhaps Hungary might finally change these perceptions.

Locals in Budapest are thoroughly amused by a billboard that the government has debuted to promote its “family protection action plan,” which promises tax breaks for mothers of multiple children.

The poster features the iconic ‘Distracted Boyfriend’ couple lovingly holding each other in their arms, a far cry from the narrative circulated by the internet.

“The happy couple gracing the Hungarian government’s campaign advertising its new family policy is already famous on the internet,” Financial Times reporter Valerie Hopkins tweets. “[But] not for being madly in love.”

At time of publish, the post has garnered over 3,700 retweets and 10,000 likes.

“The designer must have had a laugh when his proposal was accepted,” comments Petrit Selimi, former foreign minister of Kosovo.

Ironically, the duo has modeled in photos that portray them as unhappy new parents, but good on them for finally fixing their relationship.
