Last November, Muji announced that it had joined forces with Finnish autonomous-driving company Sensible 4 to launch a driverless ‘Gacha’ shuttle bus.

Now, the Japanese minimalist retailer has revealed a series of images of the self-driving vehicle, giving fans a first look at the bus that is built to withstand all weather conditions.

Sensible 4’s CEO Harri Santamala told Dezeen that while most self-driving cars can only withstand certain weather conditions, Sensible 4’s proprietary autonomous self-driving technology makes it safe for use all-year-round. The vehicle had survived harsh winter conditions during a testing period in Finnish Lapland.

The interior and exterior of ‘Gacha’ is designed by Muji with the aim of exuding peace, joy and happiness.

Commuters in Finland will soon be able to hail the ‘Gacha’ bus through a smartphone app, and then hop on once the transport arrives. ‘Gacha’ locates its passengers through its autonomous driving sensors that are connected to a digital map.

‘Gacha’ is set to hit the road in Espoo, Finland come April 2019. More ‘Gachas’ will be released in Hämeenlinna, Vantaa and Helsinki throughout this year.
