After several lackluster model updates, Apple’s iPhone continues to experience waning demand.
With fierce competitors looming on the horizon, could the tech giant be looking to reignite the desire for this once revolutionary gadget by way of… a rear triple-camera setup?
Industry insider Steve Hemmerstoffer, who goes by the Twitter handle @onleaks, has shared a rendering of the iPhone ‘XI’ redesign that shows three camera lens sitting inside a square unit on the phone’s rear.
Hemmerstoffer’s partner site digit.in further suggests that Apple could be exploring the utilization of Time of Flight (ToF) technology with these cameras. This will enable the devices to build detailed 3D maps of anything within a five-meter radius, thereby opening new opportunities for AR, gaming and more.
On Twitter, Hemmerstoffer clarified that since the 2019 iPhones are still in the Engineering Validation Test (EVT) stage, the render is not conclusive and the design could be modified further down the road.
What are your thoughts on this rear triple-camera square setup?
