Canadian mining firm Dominion Diamond Mines has discovered the largest natural diamond in North America.

The 552.74-carat stone, which is nearly as big as a chicken egg, was dug up in Dominion’s Diavik mine. It measures 33.74mm by 54.56mm.

Dominion’s Diavik is the same mine where the second largest 187.7-carat Diavik Foxfire Diamond was unearthed.

Dominion Diamond Mines is planning to send this stone to ideal partners for cutting and polishing. The stone will most likely be sliced into multiple pieces and sold at what is expected to be record-breaking prices.
