New York Daily News has poked fun at US President Donald Trump on the cover of its 22 December issue, which came accompanied with a cover story about the federal government shutdown.

The cover of the publication depicts Trump as the unfriendly ‘Grinch’ character with the headline, “How the Trump Stole Christmas!” The subtitle mocks, “Shuts down government over wall to put coal in stockings of 800,000 workers.”

The publication shared the cover photo in a tweet with the caption, “It could be head wasn’t screwed on just right. It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight. But we think that the most likely reason of all may have been that his heart was two sizes too small.”

The design follows Trump’s refusal to sign a spending bill that did not include funding for his US-Mexico border wall, which has resulted in complications for federal workers over this festive period.
