Disney’s ‘Aladdin’ Trailer Finally Convinces Fans That Will Smith IS ‘Genie’3 min read

Disney has released its first full-length trailer for its upcoming live-studio remake of Aladdin, putting all concerns about a weird, blue-hued Will Smith to bed.

The two-minute video shows Mena Massoud’s ‘Aladdin’ using one of his three wishes from the magic lamp of ‘Genie’ (Will Smith) to “make” him a prince.

Before granting his request, ‘Genie’ wants ‘Aladdin’ to be more specific, as “there’s a lot of gray area” in just muttering that phrase. He could literally “make” the protagonist a prince of his own.

Additionally, ‘Genie’ is heard telling ‘Aladdin’, “You look like a prince on the outside, but I didn’t change anything on the inside.”

The trailer also features nostalgic tunes like Friend Like Me and A Whole New World.

After Disney released the clip, Twitter users expressed their relief at Will Smith playing ‘Genie’ in the movie.

One fan wrote, “I’ll be honest, after the teaser with ‘Genie’, I thought this new trailer would be worse. My opinion of the movie has changed COMPLETELY.”

“Just goes to show, you cannot judge a book by its cover. If you watch this new trailer, you may look forward to this. I want to watch this now.”

Aladdin hits theaters on 24 May.
