‘Thanos’ reigned supreme in Infinity War, but will the heroes he massacred be avenged? The release of the Endgame trailer—which shows the surviving squad grappling with the aftermath of his destruction—makes a possible defeat of ‘Thanos’ seem even more gratifying.
The Russo brothers—directors of Infinity War and the upcoming Endgame—have revealed to Empire magazine, via ComicBookMovie, that ‘Thanos’ had his happy-ever-after after Infinity War. Their confirmation comes at the chagrin of MCU fans worldwide.
“He’s retired,” Joe Russo said. “He’s succeeded in the thing he has set out to do. He’s done. He did it.”
The Russo brothers’ confirmation is also in line with fans’ theories about ‘Thanos’ retiring to a quiet life as a farmer following his win.
Thankfully, there is still hope that the fallen heroes might be revived, as the duo also said in the same interview that Endgame might “clock in at around three hours,” which could give the surviving Avengers enough time to reverse the destruction of ‘Thanos’.
Back in June, the late Stan Lee issued a warning to ‘Thanos’ for wiping out half his characters.
“Don’t worry—before you know it, I’ll have our friends up and at ’em. And if I were ‘Thanos’, I’d start getting out of town. Excelsior!”
It looks like you will have to wait until Avengers: Endgame kicks off on 26 April 2019 to learn if ‘Thanos’ will truly spend the rest of his days in peace.[via Movieweb, cover image via Marvel Entertainment]
