Gathouse – Queen Street

Nick Cudworth is known for his portraits of celebrities and for his paintings of Bath street scenes, meticulously executed in a style similar to that of old master painters such as Vermeer. For his latest exhibition at Bath’s Victoria Art Gallery, he presents over 20 of his stunning Bath night paintings in the form of giclée prints on stretched canvas.

Using this new technique of reproduction allows him to bring together all his most famous images (along with some new ones) to offer them true to size of the original oil paintings as stretched canvases without frames. His brilliant eye for the effect of light on colour will no doubt encourage you to explore the city’s beautiful buildings after dark.

Born in Derby, Nick achieved a BA Hons. at Chelsea School of Art. He has been a practising artist for over 35 years. He enjoyed an early career in music as a piano player with the band Siren and recorded several blues or rock n’ roll albums in the 1960s on John Peel’s label.

Nick was commissioned by The Royal Mail to design a set of stamps for the Commonwealth Games which were on show at The Post Office Museum in Bath. In 1999, The National Portrait Gallery in London purchased Nick’s painting of film director Ken Loach for their permanent exhibition.

Nick opened his own gallery in London Street, Bath in 1999 as an exhibition space and as a studio. He works in oil and pastel and is equally known for his landscape, still life and portraiture. Discover more at .
