Late last year, Apple opened the doors to its flagship outlet in Paris that pays homage to the city’s rich history and creativity.

Apple Champs-Élysées, built by architecture firm Foster + Partners, melds history with modernity. The brick-and-mortar preserves the classic details of this original Haussmann-era building. The design leads visitors through a gorgeous 19th century Parisian passageway, before greeting them with a contemporary interior space.

Situated above the courtyard is an exquisite Kaléidoscope solar roof-light, pictured above, comprising mirrored pyramids that reflect speckled sunlight onto the internal façade below.

Foster + Partners explains on its website, “The Kaléidoscope – covered by photovoltaic panels above – reflects fragmented images of the surrounding building fabric when you look up from within the courtyard, referencing the Cubist tradition. The effect changes throughout the day and night and as you move through the building, offering a new experience from every corner.”

Apple explained inside a press release that these photovoltaic panels generate renewable energy, and an integrated rainwater collection system provides water for its bathrooms, trees and green walls.

“Like all of Apple’s facilities, Apple Champs-Élysées is powered by 100 percent renewable energy,” declared the tech brand.
