Vooban | Communication Arts

Responses by Bastien Allard, senior art director, and Frédéric Marchand, president and creative director, Locomotive.

Background: Vooban’s website is designed as the company’s primary communication and recruitment tool. The target audience includes potential clients seeking advanced digital solutions in AI, internet of things (IoT) and cloud computing, as well as future employees drawn to Vooban’s innovative culture. The challenge was to build a site that speaks confidently to both groups without diluting either message.

Design core: The site is built around bold, modular typography; fluid animations; and a strong visual rhythm. It avoids clutter and uses motion to guide attention rather than distract. Core features include thought-out content sections for services and case studies, animated transitions that create a sense of continuity, and a flexible system for scaling content as Vooban evolves.

Challenges: Balancing a highly technical subject matter with an accessible, engaging design. Vooban operates in complex fields like AI and IoT, which can easily overwhelm newcomers. The design process became an exercise in translation, making sure the brand’s expertise was conveyed clearly with just enough visual storytelling to spark curiosity without oversimplifying.

Favorite details: We’re proud of how the site feels alive without being overwhelming. Subtle animations like scroll-based section markers and transitions create a sense of flow that feels natural. The details don’t fight for attention; they support the narrative. This balance between energy and clarity makes the experience feel both professional and human.

New lessons: This project reinforced the importance of restraint. Early experiments included more elaborate effects and some interactive 3-D components, but time and budget constraints pushed us to strip back to the essentials. What remained was a stronger, more timeless system. It was a reminder that good design isn’t about how much you add, but how well you refine.
